Lights, floral delights, holiday sights and other events are part of a month-long spectacle called Winter Lights at The Elizabethan Gardens held December 2-5, 9-12, 16-19, 23, 26, 30 (Tuesdays thru Saturdays) January 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23 (Fridays and Saturdays) from 6pm-9pm. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Winter Climb
Date: December 12, 2015 Time: 10 AM – 2 PM
Join us for a FREE winter climb of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 10 am to 2 pm. Children must be at least 42″ tall to climb the lighthouse. Children under 12 must be escorted by a person at least 16 years old. Climbing the lighthouse is strenuous. Climbing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is equivalent to climbing a 12-story building. Alligator River Refuge Red Wolf Howling and Tour

The final Alligator River Refuge Red Wolf howling and tram tour for the calendar year are coming up in early December. The Red Wolf howling is Saturday 12-5, 4:30-6:00 pm. Tram tour is Saturday 12-12, 9:00 am-noon. Both events meet at Creef Cut Trail parking lot, Milltail Road & Hwy 64 (5 1/2 miles west of Roanoke Island). Call for details-252-216-9464.
Dare County Candy Drop
Date: December 13, 2015 Time: 12:30 pm
The Berlin Candy Bomber and his crew will be flying off to get Santa Claus to bring him to the Manteo Airport. But before he lands he will drop out 1,000 miniature parachutes with a candy bar attached. All children are invited to attend , catch a candy bar, enjoy cupcakes and other holiday treats and tell Santa what he is to bring for Christmas. Parents are encouraged to tour the inside of the C-54 to view priceless artifacts and recall the amazing effort at the end of World War Two that saved over 2,000,000 civilian lives in the blockaded West Berlin sector and continued on for more than a year.
112th Annual Celebration of The Wright Brothers First Flight
Date: December 17, 2015
Gather at the exact site at the exact time as the historic flight to remember. •8:30 a.m. – The observance begins with a patriotic musical prelude •9:00 a.m. – The formal program will commemorate the Wrights’ achievement and pay tribute to this years inductee into the First Flight Society’s Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine. •10:35 a.m. – An aviation flyover will pay tribute to the Wright brothers at the documented exact moment of the Wrights’ first flight. •11:00 a.m. – Darrell Collins, NPS Historian, presides over the wreath-laying ceremony to honor the Wright brothers and the witnesses of the first flight at the exact spot where the famous first flight occurred. Throughout the day, the park’s museum exhibits and activities provide interpretive talks in the Flight Room. The Visitors Center will open at 9:00 am.
