Inspired by the warmth and vibrancy of Outer Banks fishing culture and its people, Blue Water Grill is a take on sea-to-table cooking infused into popular dishes we love. The restaurant was founded on Roanoke Island, where our easy access to fresh, local fish helps us celebrate on island time every day.

Meet Jess and BJ, Owners

Blue Water Grill & Raw Bar started as a dream by Jess and BJ, husband and wife with 40 combined years of restaurant experience doing just about everything—from waiting tables to managing the bar and everything in between. On a voyage to someday have a restaurant of their own, they created a haven where people can savor soul food, fun drinks, good music, and marina views. Ever since our owners set up shop, they have struck success by following a mantra from Jessica’s grandaddy:

"Do what you love, and you won’t work a day in your life."

Somewhere beyond the sea, growing up in Montana for BJ meant family trips to the Oregon and Washington coasts, sparking his fascination with seaside fare. Jess, a fisherman’s daughter from Wanchese, has saltwater in her blood. Fusing BJ’s handiness with Jess’s determined nature, their synergy cultivates a workplace that prioritizes patience, understanding, and the undying spirit of the Blue Water family. They reside in Wanchese and enjoy quality time with family, friends, and their fur babies, Sadie and Luna.
